Upload file and geocode addresses

Before you can start calculating routes in TLNplanner internet, the addresses from the Excel® file must first of all be uploaded and geocoded.

• In the toolbar in the tender+ use case > Data area, click Upload.

• Select the Excel® file with the prepared routes.

  The data will be imported.

During the importation process, TLNplanner internet determines all identical addresses which occur in the Excel® file.

Example: In the Excel® file, the starting point is always the Munich depot. This address is only imported once and is used for all plans after geocoding.

After the import you can geocode the addresses automatically and, if required, manually.

Automatic geocoding

With automatic geocoding, the imported addresses are assigned a position on the map. Depending on the quality of the location data, you can choose the criteria according to which assignment should take place.

• On the toolbar, in the Geocoding area, click on  Automatic.

  The Automatically Post-geocode Data window opens.

• Use the selection list to select the desired data records for geocoding.

• Select whether you would like to geocode the addresses on street/house number level, ZIP-level or location level.

• Click on Next.

The data are geocoded. A statistic is displayed when geocoding is complete.

Tip: If you close the window, geocoding will continue to run in the background. The geocoding status can be seen in the Addresses tab in the Info column.

In the Info column of the address list, different coloured symbols are used to show whether there is a difference between the location data in the imported address and the address on the map. Addresses moved manually are also identified.

If the symbol is missing in the Info column, this means that the address could not be geocoded.

Symbol	Description
	The imported address data matches the allocated address on the map.
	The imported address was manually post-geocoded on the map.
	Small differences between the imported address data and the allocated address on the map. For example, this may occur if the imported address has a house number which has not been found by TLNplanner internet in the location database. The data set is then geocoded on the centre of the street.
	The imported data record was allocated a position on the map using the coordinates given.
	There are relatively large differences between the imported address data and the assigned address on the map.

If there are still addresses that could not be assigned to a location even after automatic geocoding, you can post-geocode these addresses manually.

Manual Post-Geocoding

In manual post-geocoding, you assign a suitable location from the location database to the imported address.

• Select the data records for which you wish to perform post-geocoding.

  Tip: The fastest way to select non-geocoded addresses is via the selection list .

   

• On the toolbar, in the Geocoding section, click on Manual.

  Manual geocoding now starts and in the lower section, the Manual post-geocoding window opens

• Select the desired address from the list of suggested locations.

  Tip: You can move the address on the map in order to position it exactly.

• Confirm with Apply and continue.

   

When all of the stop-off points have been geocoded, you can define the calculation parameters (see Specifying settings for the tender+ calculation).
