Manual post-geocoding of records

In manual post-geocoding, for each data record you can select a suitable suggestion from the location database.

  • Open the database (see Open Database).

  • Use the selection list to choose the records, for which you wish to perform post-geocoding (see Selecting records for post-geocoding).

  • On the toolbar, in the Geocoding section, click on Manual.

Manual geocoding now starts and in the lower field, the Manual Post-gecoding window opens.

The window is arranged into two areas:

    • Where are the Addresses to be shown on the map
Here you can use the location database to choose where the address is to be displayed on the map; this means, you define the relevant coordinates.

    • Which address data should be shown in the program and on the printout?
Here, you define how the addresses should be displayed in the program and on the printout.

You now have several options.

Geocoding and correction of the original address

Proceed as follows if you wish to correct the original address with address data:

  • Complete the displayed location data or input the correct address.

During your input, TLNplanner internet searches for the suitable entry in the internal database of locations and the suggestions are shown in a list.

  • Select the appropriate location entry from the list.

The address is displayed on the map and the selected location data is transferred to the Which Address Data Should be Displayed on the Printout Area.

  • Click on Apply & Next.

The address is geocoded and the data from the original address are replaced with the address data from the database of locations. The original address is identical to the geocoded address (see What is the difference between the original address and the geocoded address?).

Geocoding and retention of the original address

If you want to geocode the addresses, but the data from the original address should still be displayed in the program or on the printout, do the following:

  • Complete the displayed location data or input the desired address.

During your input, TLNplanner internet searches for the suitable entry in the internal database of locations and the suggestions are shown in a list.

  • Select a suitable location entry from the list.

The address is displayed on the map and the selected location data is transferred to the Which Address Data Should be Displayed on the Printout Area.

  • In the Your Data area, use the buttons to define which data from the original address is to be displayed in the program and on the printout.

Tip: You can also edit or complete address data in the Display in the Program group.

  • Click on Apply & Next.

The address is geocoded, the address data that you have entered into the Display in the Program area is displayed in the program.

In the detailed view of the record, the original address is different from the geocoded address (see What is the difference between the original address and the geocoded address?).

Moving an address on the map

If an address is not shown precisely at the correct point on the map then you can move it to the position you want.

  • Zoom into the map until you can easily recognise the required position.

  • Click on the green circle, hold the left mouse button pressed and move the circle to the new position.

  • Click on Apply & Next.

The new position is adopted as the coordinates of the address.
